Dr Steven Franks is a Massachusetts native. He attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and Tufts University School of Medicine. He received two years of internal medicine training at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Brighton, MA and at the University of Connecticut in Farmington. After two years in the US Army, he received three years of dermatology training at the State University of New York in Buffalo.
Dr. Franks established a private practice in general dermatology in Worcester, MA in 1977 with subsequent offices in Leominster and Westborough. During that time, he was active in in-office and didactic teaching of medical students and residents. He also hired the first dermatology physician assistant in Massachusetts. In 2000, he left private practice to enter academics at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. There, he worked with the dermatology residents and managed cases sent to the University from across South Carolina.
Since September of 2001, Dr. Franks has returned to private practice, working with physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners at several sites around the state. His practice is divided between medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. Throughout his career, he has been a member of several local, regional and national societies and has served for many years on the board of the Massachusetts Academy of Dermatology.
Despite his long career in the specialty of dermatology, Dr Franks continues to enjoy the daily interactions with his patients, trying to blend humor and a commonsense approach to medical care. His outside interests include visiting with family and friends, reading, biking and golf.
Kathryn Swanson - MSN, FNP, DCNP, is an ANCC board certified dermatology and family nurse practitioner with 25 years experience. She specializes in medical dermatology and cosmetic dermatology. Kathryn has a masters degree in nursing from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She has done post graduate work at Boston College. Kathryn has a certification in skin cancer screening, assessment and treatment from the Lahey Clinic. She is certified in medical aesthetics and laser therapy
Erin is a board certified nurse practitioner. She received her degree from Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. Erin's interests are in medical dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, skin rejuvenation and aesthetic services.
